This is also why fanfiction isn't the same as writing a book. Fic authors have a shared context. A setting, character appearances, a certain rough geography---their work is allowed to inherit all this and skip to the character beats they want to toy with.

The writing in that HP rapeslop is really not very good, in spite of its fans claiming it is a literary masterpiece. Even the description of the violence is quite infantile and disinterested.
