Energy nerd and software developer, in that order.
If they made an El Camino EV, I'd buy it. I want the hauling space, but I don't need the weight or towing horsepower.

Also, that trucks-as-bar-chart image is truly inspired. Kudos to Will Chase.
Ford presents the F-150 as an enduring American icon, but its bloated design is a recent phenomenon.

In the 1970s, the bed comprised 2/3 of a F-150's length. Now it's just 1/3.

Today on Volts: I talk with the estimable Cory Doctorow about enshittification (the inevitable rot & customer exploitation of tech platforms) and how it might manifest in clean-energy tech, which will soon be running our vehicles and homes. Much to worry about!

Can we avoid the enshittification of clean-energy tech?
Cory Doctorow describes how software platform technologies go wrong and what it might look like when our homes and vehicles are on those platforms.

I took my kids with me to the car dealership to pick up a new #EV. Even as I signed the papers, the finance manager told me he thought fossil fuels would dominate transportation until 2070 or "when my kids had kids." I didn't argue with him. I just intend to prove him wrong.

Is anyone using Polars instead of Pandas for data analysis? This author makes a compelling point, and I'd be curious to hear your experience. arilamstein.com/blog/2024/09...
Why I'm Switching to Polars - Ari Lamstein

On Wed., I'm recording a pod with recently retired FERC commissioner Allison Clements. These will be her first in-depth public comments since stepping down.

#EnergySky, I know you have questions. What should I ask her?

Today on Volts: ~80% of US ratepayers have a smart meter on their building, generating real-time data about ⚡️ usage. That data could be very useful to customers, but utilities bottle it up in difficult-to-access formats. Mission:data says: free it!
