Vera didn't just observe galaxies, she revolutionized our understanding of them. Her work on galaxy rotation curves provided the strongest evidence for dark matter, reshaping cosmology forever. A true pioneer in science and a champion for women in STEM.❣
The Vera C Rubin Observatory is a groundbreaking project that released its first images today…I will be dedicating this whole week to talking about its first discoveries and what makes this telescope so incredible because y’all my mind is already blown 🤯🤩🧪🔭

Another image I processed using Telescope Live's data. This is M66, a galaxy about 31Mly distant, shot with a 27.5" scope. I processed this using PixInsight and Affinity Photo. More on Astrobin: app.astrobin.com/i/076cr4

The Witch Head Nebula is a vast reflection nebula located in the constellation Eridanus, near the bright star Rigel in Orion. Its peculiar shape resembles a witch’s profile wearing a pointed hat. The dust in the nebula reflects Rigel’s intense blue light.

NEW #Astrophoto: Messier 5

One of the oldest globular clusters in the Milky Way, ~25,000 ly away in Serpens. A true cosmic fossil!

North America Nebula, imaged a few nights ago.
Processed in HOO with only 50 mins of integration (10 subs) per channel due to lack of darkness.
This is my first true narrowband mono image. Bit of a learning curve compared to what I'm used to, but good fun.
Compression has killed resolution a lot 😕

Thank you for bringing your bluetooth speaker to the park. I didn't want to hear the sound of the birds singing or the children laughing. I wanted to hear the spotify playlist you listen to everywhere because you hate to be alone with your own thoughts for even one minute. Thank you.

So, here is my first image using N.I.N.A. Whilst it's not perfect, (no pixel peepers please 😆) it's a success for me. I learned a lot at astro camp from the help of others, and I got everything working at home, and captured an image! This is 3.75 hours on the Rosette Nebula.

so I grabbed a backyard shot of the Tulip nebula SH2-101 in cygnus (The swan).

Blue Origin just sent a "crew of astronauts into space".
It's amazing that a company that sends people so high can set the bar so low.

This is a close-up of NGC 2237 in the Rosette Nebula in Monoceros. It is composed of two nights of 5 minute exposures in the short two hour window when it is available from my backyard. More details in the ALT TEXT and in my gallery: app.astrobin.com/u/JimCase?i=...

🔭There's a Monkey Head in the night sky: #NGC2174, about 6400 light years away. I took this from my backyard in Berlin and removed the stars, so the nebula pops out more. The image was taken by only recording light emitted by Ha, OIII and SII particles, aka "narrowband imaging". 🔭

Here’s the Fornax Propeller Galaxy #NGC1365 which is part of a galaxy cluster. It only rises 15 degrees above my horizon which isn’t ideal due to houses and streetlights. I downloaded the raw data from #TelescopeLive to create this awesome image.

Last night, before the rain hits Melbourne, I had a good crack at doing mosaic images of the Carina Nebula C92 and a broad area of the Large Magellanic Cloud. There was a bit of wind and an almost full moon so I'm happy with the results. Several hours of collection time for each.
