Trump has admired dictators and will admire dictators. This might be in his interest: again, in the basic sense that he needs to learn how to stay in power and die in bed. But it has nothing to do with the interests of Americans. — Timothy Snyder

Luigi Mangione just shouted at cameras covering his arrival at his extradition hearing that something was an insult to the intelligence of the American people which as we've known since November 5 is now an absolute impossibility

I think Cameron Maybin — who played for both the Yankees and the Mets — has it right: given the eerie similarity between what these teams offered him, it was clear Soto wanted to be in New York. He just didn't want to be in The Bronx.

When Trump talks about "our" country, he's not talking about you: he means himself and those in the same tax bracket who look like him. They literally believe they own the country — and everything and everyone in it. IOW: this land is *not* your land, it's theirs.

There is still such a thing as losing the battle and winning the war.

At least I hope there is.
I mean Jesus Christ if you fight people notice. Even if you have some short term losses, it creates momentum. It changes things. People with any degree of awareness and any desire for improvement don’t want norms or bipartisanship. They want to fight. Give us some fucking fighters.
Obama's '08 campaign won the biggest margin of victory in the last 30+ years. Within hours of his inauguration, Republicans went to dinner and agreed to oppose him on every single item. Two years later, they won 63 House seats and 6 Senate seats.

Biden did what any father would have done for his son if he had the wherewithal. Hey, SCOTUS said it's ok to do it if it's an official act; this sure looks official. Anyway:

The President IS. ALLOWED. TO. CHANGE. HIS. MIND.
Dems should condemn Biden pardoning a family member because if he doesn't, he sets terrible precedent that could even see a crazy scenario where Trump pardons a family member of major crimes and then gives him a prestigious role as ambassador to a nuclear armed nation. Don't laugh. It could happen.

Happy 70th Bruce Hornsby, still an inspiration. As much as I love his work with The Range and now The Noisemakers, his solo work is equally astonishing.

If you haven't cancelled your subscription to the Times yet, now would be a good time. It's not like they're about providing unbiased coverage any more, beholden as they are to pre-emptive obeisance to the incoming administration — Sulzberger's lame, utterly cynical protestations notwithstanding.
