I am interested in working with an artist on a graphic novel on soil and/ or global environmental change. The lab would have money to fund this.

Do you know of any graphic artists that would be interested?

It can be hard to separate the art from the artist at times; some of them have really expensive security systems for their studios…

Morning :)

I love this period of the year: no-one knows what day it is and it's acceptible to eat chocolate for breakfast.

That said, I THINK it's Saturday and I haven't started on the chocolate...yet!

On the assumption that it IS a Saturday, that means it's time for a list...

What a Long Strange Trip It’s Been
Seasons greetings to you - whether you're celebrating today or it's just simply Thursday, I hope you're having a thoroughly excellent day. As 2025 wraps up and 2026 gears up, it's time for me to take a look back at what I've accomplished and take a look ahead at the plans I've got. Unlike last year, this year's been (mostly) minus on the personal drama - granted, there were a couple of stingers in the latter half of the year which may yet blow up in the early part of next year, but for now...

I hope today is what you need it to be ❤️

Morning :) (err...just about, anyway!)

The day job still has a few tasks left before I can log off that for the holiday and, of course, draft 3 still needs its daily word count (which I also can't do until I've finished the day job stuff...which I have done a good chunk off already, to be fair!)...
December 24, 2025 at 12:01 PM
Morning :)

Grey and grim this morning and I have the day job tasks to match, sadly.

Once they're taken care off, it's draft 3's daily minimum of 1500.

First, though, second socks! <3

And a Finnish phrase about nothing being so bad that it won’t pass is kaikkeen tottuu paitsi jääpuikkoon perseessä ja sekin sulaa pois. It means “you can get used to anything but an ice stick in your ass, and even that will eventually melt away.”

Morning :)

Well, that was a weekend... I did get a few bits and pieces done here and there, but nothing substantial, which means I need to try and catch up a little today.

Draft 3's minimum count has gone up to 1500 and the more above that I can get, the better my chances are of not...

You've been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you.

Who's coming to save you?

I might be okay, depending on who she brings with her!

The cat who died - but got better - is having his corrective surgery today to finish the work they started before he died (but got better).

I'm well into five digits for pet bills this year, so please RT a book from this long book thread.

Morning :)

It's Friday. That must mean my day job list has spawned multiple new quests - twelve of them, in fact! Fortunately, most of them are either quick, or the sort of thing you set running and leave alone until it's finished.

I also expect there'll be a few more bits as clients remember...

Morning :)

It's day 2 of office wrangling. For a small room, there is a LOT of stuff in here, but progress has been made and hopefully I won't need a day 3...

Minimum word count is just a shade over 1k.

And before all of that: coffee! <3
December 18, 2025 at 9:20 AM
Morning :)

After yesterday's day off, today needs to be full focus. Impressively, I DID manage to get 1k done on draft 3 despite the day off, leaving me with a minimum of exactly 1k to get finished before the end of the month.

In addition to that, though, there's a few other things I need to do...

EIther 18 or 18.5 - never even seen a waterbed, so that's a definite never-used. The other one's the AOL email - I never had one, but I DID use AIM and had friends who had AOL emails, so it depends how you view 'used'!

Morning :)

Today is (largely) a complete day off. I am eating bonbons and contemplating a day of glorious abandon. There will (inevitably) be a bit of writing, but that's going to be later. Right now, I have a date with Assassin's Creed and my To Read pile <3

In an effort at something good on the internet today: A thread on Mr KJC, gingerbread architect of the early 21st century.

Mr KJC got his beginnings like so many gingerbread architects: with a kit house for the kids. Kind of fun but the premade pieces are dry and nasty, only technically edible.

An excellent thread about a deceptively smart film and some fascinating individuals. And sharp pointy objects. Lots of sharp pointy objects.
As you may know, I have stopped using Twitter, and have decided to reproduce some of my more memorable threads here for posterity. Here’s one I hold wrote after a particularly engaging swordfighting lesson.

Buckle up, swordfighting fans, because I *have* studied my Agrippa!

Morning :)

The start of another week.

After my weekend's efforts, draft 3's daily minimum is just over 1k, but getting more done is obviously going to be beneficial. I also didn't get to the draft 6 formatting, so sorting that out today would be good.

And I've no doubt my clients will want me...

Something exciting is happening- In support of keeping the Chilterns Heritage & Archaeology Partnership afloat (DEFRA monies only go so far), I have been encouraged to launch a lecture series.

(and yes, I asked Sir Baz sometime ago about basing this on his book, so I haven't just nicked the title😅)

Has to be watching Attack of the Clones and getting to the scenes of Anakin and Padme frolicking in the meadow. Virtually everyone spontaniously sang "The hills are alive with the sound of music!" - to the absolute disgust and horror of the two Americans in the room, who weren't expecting Brits*...
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.
