8 October 1942 | SS-Brigadeführer August Frank from WVHA wrote to Reichsführer SS Heinrich Himmler that the Office of Medical Affairs and Camp Hygiene had so far collected 50 kilograms of gold from the teeth of deceased prisoners for dental purposes of the SS. This supply would last for five years.

Happy 75th birthday to comics creator Howard Chaykin, who drew this fanboy a sketch of his Ironwolf character while crouched in a hallway of the Statler Hilton Hotel at one of Phil Seuling’s July 4th weekend comic book conventions back when he was 21 and I was 17. Tempus fugit!

One of the more incredible stories out of LA this year has been how a taco review blog became the best on-the-ground coverage of ICE raids in the city.

They do a dispatch every day, follow-up on the kidnapped people (which almost no media outlet has done), and fact-check government claims.

#DEFAcember news flash!: the viewing deadline for these early Konrad Wolf films has been extended to Friday, October 10th. I'll try and do another of them this week before doing the film I'd meant to do in the first place to end the series this weekend.

Understand that the Reichstag Fire—the faked emergency Hitler used to seize power—is happening right now in America.

Trump and his goons are lying about crime and who they are arresting to provoke the violence they will justify martial law with.

It's the fascists' final maneuver to end democracy.

Written 55 years ago, Schulz's heartfelt clarity cuts through the noise, even today.

Scan of a typed letter from 1970, from Peanuts creator Charles Schulz, addressed to "Joel Lipton, 622 N. Foothill Road, Beverly Hills, Calif. 90210"

It reads:

"Dear Joel:

I think it is more difficult these days to define what makes a good citizen than it has ever been before. Certainly all any of us can do is follow our own conscience and retain faith in our democracy. Sometimes it is the very people who cry out the loudest in favor of getting back to what they call "American Virtues" who lack this faith in our country.

I believe that our greatest strength lies always in the protection of our smallest minorities.

Sincerely yours,

Charles M. Schulz"
