To understand discrimination in politics, we need to understand "strategic descriptive representation without substantive representation."

Because what is it worth when we have more women, minorities, or Muslims etc. in politics when they cannot stand for the issues that benefit their own groups?

This is a very interesting observational paper for those working on gendered dynamics of far-right, descriptive rep & femonationalism

Does women's descriptive rep. lower anti-gender discourse among far-right? No, it *increases* it (according to parl speech data 2009-2023)

👉The gender gap in political ambition is not self-evident; it can be overcome with socialization efforts in schools, youth party sections, but also families!

♀️♂️So can we promote equal participation of women and men in political roles (candidates or political advisors) and advance gender equality.

📣Publication alert 📣

Why are men more keen in taking the political plunge than women?

🙅‍♀️Not because of the competitive nature of politics
➡️Rather driven by political interest, trust in one's political capacities, enjoying convincing others and teenage political discussions at home
