Trump’s America, you get executed for disrespecting ICE, Fed Chairs get threatened with criminal indictments if they don’t lower interest rates, and our closest allies for decades are threatened with invasion. We are in a dark place, a place some of us very much expected.

I love how Chet and Karen Tonepolice always seem to show up after someone aligned with their political party murders someone in the face, or some other such event enabled by their years of NRA bankrolls and abject servitude.
Dear Democratic politicians, may I make a humble suggestion?

Stop with the constant use of the F word. Not only is it tacky, it loses its impact when you do it so much, and honestly it looks forced like you’re trying to be tough.

Just a suggestion.

This whole notion is built on a strawman, that statutory removal protections somehow cut the president out of the loop altogether. But the president still makes appointments. Trump appointed Powell! That's the only thing the Constitution actually says about the matter.
i think powell's response here is a demonstration of the folly of the idea that democratic accountability requires presidential control. what if the president is not acting in the public interest? you want independent agencies to be able to push back and pursue their *congressional mandate*
Powell, showing more guts than almost any GOP legislators:

"The threat of criminal charges is a consequence of the Fed setting interest rates based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than following the preferences of the President."

"It is now the independence and credibility of the Department of Justice that are in question."

The total capture of the DOJ, seemingly with very little pushback or resistance, is one of the most striking examples of the capitulation of American elites in the face of authoritarianism. It’s been less than a year, and federal prosecutions or investigations are already completely discredited.
This is just one more example of a much broader pattern: The Department of Justice targeting Trump's political enemies with made-up accusations of wrong-doing.
