I would like to know how my prior colleagues, who have chosen to pursue leadership positions under this charlatan, justify ordering agents to break their oaths of office and open investigations on people simply for exercising their legal rights.

Good luck gazing in the mirror when this is all over.

Bari’s substack, The Free Press, was very successful by substack standards.

So now she’s trying to run CBS News as if it were the Free Press, and the problem she can’t wrap her mind around is that good-numbers-for-a-blog are shit numbers for the nightly fucking news.

Family members of two Trinidadian men killed in a U.S. military boat strike have SUED the Trump administration, accusing it of wrongful death and extrajudicial killings.

Their families say they were fishermen and farm workers simply returning home.

Having lived through this at the Post, these people refuse to say, "I want to make this news outlet more conservative." So we get lots of lip service about new ideas, innovation and reporting. But Bari Weiss runs a website! It breaks very little news, and all of that is anti-left.
Part two of three, with Bari Weiss announcing a CBS News masthead, promoting a new bench of contributors, and promising "to invest even more in revelatory journalism:"

Interesting look at how the Murdoch Empire – in particular Fox News, the WSJ and the NY Post - did a whiplash-inducing 180 after months of cheering on the violent immigration crackdown. And how effective Rupert is at telling Trump what to do.

think this is mostly right. roger ailes wanted to make money but he was a diehard conservative who was very invested in getting elected republicans elected always. thats why he was so good at what he did. bari has hitched her wagon to the right but she isn't a true believer of the faith.
My sense is that Weiss is a largely non-ideological grifter. Yeah, she's invested (pun intended) in being an Edgy Iconoclast Who Can't Be Classified, but ultimately I think she's just a troll who wants money and prestige.
what bari weiss is doing is bad and dangerous, but as someone who has watched the rw media world for decades now -- weiss is like a discount bargain basement roger ailes. like karl rove, ailes was an evil genius. weiss is a dummy. still dangerous, but a dummy.

Indeed. Senate Dems don't even need to say "abolish ICE." They can do their obnoxious "we need to investigate this, come up with reforms" or whatever.

But there is no good reason to rush to whatever compromise the GOP will accept. Dems have the advantage. Use it. Let the GOP stew in their problems.
the first best Senate ask is to split the DHS funding from the rest of the minibus.

It wrongfoots Republicans, it unites the D caucus, and it becomes more compelling rather than less compelling the longer Rs resist it. plus all the minibus components were negotiated separately anyway
