Fascism doesn’t arrive in uniform overnight. It arrives with suited politicians, one piece of legislation — or executive order — at a time.

My piece for @tribunemagazine.bsky.social to mark Holocaust Memorial Day.

Jeremy Corbyn: Remembering Auschwitz, Fighting Today
As we mark the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, we must remember the heroic resistance of many inmates to inspire our struggle against renewed fascism today.

Billionaires should not own social media platforms.

Billionaires should not run our newspapers.

Billionaires should not control our politics.

A free media is a democratic media - a public good that is owned and run by us all.

The last photo of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, detained after refusing to abandon his colleagues and patients.

In just one image, we see both the power of Palestinian humanity and the moral weakness of all those complicit in genocide.

End all arms sales to Israel, now.

This position is premised on the absurd notion that the only working class worth acknowledging is white and on a condescension to that or any working class that they are essentially incapable of being anything but crass bullies.

I am so sick of these faux ‘left’ types laundering MAGA talking points by pretending that sensitivity to language politics is elitism incarnate. Guess what? Giving a shit about how you treat people is the foundation of a consistent politics oriented towards justice, including anti-capitalism.

There's a completely different story to tell. And it's the true story. And it involves everyone.

It's a story of helping communities organise to create a better society where people's pay & dignity is held at the forefront - and a new economy, to tackle the climate crisis, that works for everyone.

Labour is not offering any meaningful alternative.

In fact - they're taking the Tories story, switching costumes and hoping that everything will be ok.

We could just sit back & watch it go wrong for them but we have a climate crisis that means we're on a very urgent ticking clock.

Clive is bang on here.

This is very basic stuff that Labour are getting so completely wrong.

People who are struggling are not benefiting from hawks like Blackrock being given partnerships.

Not only are they not benefiting - they're a huge part of the reason that inequality is so huge.
This post from the PM is problematic for a number of reasons.

A thread…🧵

The ICC’s arrest warrants are long overdue.

The Prime Minister & Foreign Secretary must immediately endorse this decision. That is the bare minimum.

Will the UK government now, finally, honour its international obligations to prevent genocide and end all arms sales to Israel?

Following the ICC's arrest warrants, the Independent Alliance have written to the Prime Minister asking if he will comply with the ruling.

The UK government must decide: is it on the side of Israeli impunity or international law?

This is a good thread.

I do think it's important to be informed about what's happening in the world & social media plays a big part in that, but for our own sanity we need the silly/fun accounts too.

My Twitter feed became too unbalanced by the end so I plan to do things differently on Bluesky.
I started actively using Twitter in 2010 & quickly realised there were other sides to the place outside my hinterland of people there to have fun. Whether you looked for it or not it would pop up in your timeline. Far beyond what I was exposed to irl. So I’ve always thought ‘bubbles’ were bullshit.

There is a very simple reason why the UK government refuses to acknowledge the genocide in Gaza.

If they did, they would be admitting their own complicity in one of the greatest crimes of our time.

End all arms sales to Israel, now.

If you bring central London to a halt in order to campaign against catastrophic climate change then you're a "barmy" eco "fanatic" who deserves to be locked up.

If you do the same to hang on to your multimillion pound inheritance tax exemption then you're a brave freedom fighter defying the odds

The Irish government like all western governments has realised that we are past the point of no return when it comes to climate change and therefore their main strategy is to prepare for the brutalisation of the millions of refugees who will be inevitably forced to flee their homes

My best safety tip to stop this place becoming the sewer the other place - ignore, block and move on from the racists, click baiters and attention seekers.
Engaging with them by replying isn't "challenging them", it gives them profile, boosts how many see them and gets them jobs on right wing media!
Bluesky has grown by over 3M people in the last week — welcome!

With every wave of growth naturally comes an increase in moderation reports. Here’s a status report on how the Trust & Safety team is handling it:
