Of course, the substance of what Trump says here — below that bottom line — is all a lie. Specifically, the National Guard was never allowed to be deployed in Portland or Chicago due to quickly filed lawsuits and responsive judges issuing orders barring the deployment.

At Law Dork today, I highlighted "four key lessons that we can and must take out of 2025." www.lawdork.com/p/four-lesso...

As I did that, Trump announced that he was giving up on his National Guard efforts in states where the action is opposed by the state — illustrating all four of my points.

So the “closed” daycares…were closed during the last week of the year, during which most daycares are closed. And the doors were “locked,” which they are at every daycare. And they wouldn’t let in a “journalist” with a camera…which they wouldn’t do at any daycare. Got it.

An absolute must to read and ponder. Right through to the end. By Spencer Ackerman.

Right-wingers spent all year defending Epstein’s associates due to “lack of evidence” (while they were hiding said evidence), now they want to deport every Somali in Minnesota because a “journalist” alleged that a few Somalis are engaged in fraud. Minorities are guilty until proven innocent to them.

It's not just Trump's secret police, plenty of other countries demand you open your phone so they can search it: North Korea, Iran, China, Russia and Israel, for instance. And come to think of it, these are the countries Trump normally votes with at the UN.

Miller exemplifies the Trump Dictatorship one year in: They've done a lot of damage, but have also profoundly failed.
Trump and Stephen Miller are actually failing in crucial ways. Deportations are lagging behind their goals, courts are mostly functioning, and their fascist, ethnonationalist cruelties have unleashed a countermobilization of unexpected scope and power.

Fantastic piece putting the Bari Weiss Experiment in perspective
As it happens, I have experience with high-level government demands to stop an explosive, accurate story from running, and I also have experience with 60 Minutes spiking a story I was involved in, so I have thoughts about the travesty at CBS. If you want some journalism anecdotes, here are a lot:

The Kennedy Center adopted bylaws earlier this year that limited voting to presidentially appointed trustees — not those designated by Congress — a move that preceded the dubious vote to add Trump's name to the center.

Legal experts say the move may conflict with the institution's charter.

The cultural center said only trustees appointed by the president could vote, barring other members, including Democrats who hold seats, from decisions.
