Chilling to see this list of terminated NIH grants. Research on Alzheimer's, HIV, rare diseases, vaccines -- gone. Cancer centers closed, training grants & fellowships terminated. Young scientists stranded. Patients waiting for treatments that'll never come. Just sad.

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism.

We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive

Americans do not understand the incredible crisis consuming all components of their government at once. Thousands of jobs lost, projects on hold, desks unmanned, services stopped, basic safety neglected. Total chaos. Stuff is going to start breaking down, maybe catastrophically.

Ok, schools at US military bases aren’t just removing books that fall into the “DEI” category.

They are removing books with that totally woke viewpoint that slavery was a bad thing

At an elementary school at Fort Campbell, home of the 101st Airborne Division, librarians are hard at work scrubbing the shelves for books that contain references to slavery, the civil rights movement...

People who barely know themselves will try to tell you who YOU are. That includes loved ones who you deeply love and trust. The reality is we are complex and multifaceted beings. You are not the same person you were 10 years ago, not even 10 days ago. Trust yourself!

Give people the things they need (wants aren't always needs) and make them feel part of the community, and crime will go down. Trying to exert more power with prosecution and police force isn't going to do it. With these policies, crime is inevitablely going to go up in the next few years.
Violent crime in DC has been steadily trending down for decades and fell to a multi-generational low in 2024. Every single article covering whatever the administration does this week should mention that fact and highlight the data. This is about power and control, not crime or public safety.

I honestly believe our most powerful position in a toxic time that feeds on cynicism, apathy,& despair is to genuinely care and act for a better world.

Cynicism is our enemy. We should check it, incl. on the left. It’s not intellectually superior. It’s the virus they’re trying to infect us with. NO

Be mindful of the energy you put out. Whether you believe in it or not, karma is a universal law. You will have to repay this energy until you learn. If not in this life, you'll be wondering "why me" in the next.

Karma isn't good or bad, it's just a natural part of the universe.
