i am not generally, as an omnivore, a fan of vegan meat substitutes, i’m too sensitive to texture. i am a painfully picky eater but i keep trying vegan stuff hoping i’ll find something that tastes good to me.

having watch this thing blow up for 8 days straight now, I am convinced it has becoming a significant emotional outlet for a lot of the anxiety and anger pent up from the last 10 months. People found a free punching bag that was in easy reach and they’ve been at it every day since.

i think the counterargument is that naming it encourages people to personalize it but i think they're gonna do that anyway. if the name is vendor-supplied then i think people maybe get less deranged about it because everyone uses the same name for it. you're more obviously one user among millions.

not naming the chatbot is openai's original sin

that's why people make up a name, which makes it feel more personal to them, like they have a special unique relationship to it. not like talking to Claude, everybody talks to Claude, you're talking to your very own Greta, nobody else has a Greta.
