That whole strategy - making Sinn Féin and other parties on the left look like "traitors" over the immigration issue - involved allowing agitators to cause riots in central Dublin, burn down asylum centres and derelict buildings and attack canvassers with total impunity.

The Newtownmountkennedy "protests" were all over the news for weeks - every newspaper and tv talking head frothing about their "genuine concerns", and the far right candidate got one single vote there.

This is the best one so far: Malachy Steenson, who looks to be out of the running in Dublin Central, suggests Gerry Hutch was "put into this race" by the State to prevent his election.

I'm saying that the likely consequence is FF getting the seat from those transfers. I mean, if there's a real, statistical, odds-on danger in a specific constituency, vote away. I did include a caveat under the OP re constituencies with no good options bsky.app/profile/avri...

Caveat: I get that some constituencies have nothing but bad choices and yeah, in those circumstances, it's prudent to vote whoever you can stand just to keep out the fash.

I'm saying that's how the FF candidate gets elected since a lot of people are trying to not elect them again. Also, in this scenario, I've already given 9 other preferences and no votes to the far right.

Bear in mind also that first preferences determine state funding for parties until the next election.
May be worth considering if there's a candidate from a party who aren't in the running but you'd like to support them on an ongoing basis.
And the beauty of the system is you can still transfer on
