We have entered the "The police is saying that if the police is at your door you are not safe call the police immediately" stage of making America great again

I had, as it turns out, a voluminous quantity of words to say about the National Endowment for the Arts demanding fealty to Trump in their new grant guidelines

(with side tangents into Robert Mapplethorpe, the Eight of Swords in tarot, compliance and resistance, and why budgets are moral documents)
Do Not Obey In Advance: A Moral Crisis in Arts Funding
February energy is the NEA falling apart, a story about my mother, and learning to tell the difference between being trapped and just being scared.

an extremely long tweet from the President of Colombia roasting the United States and the Trump administration. "the US sucks except for Black people, Walt Whitman, Paul Simon, and Noam Chomsky" is just the beginning of what we in the business call a rich text

this is gonna be the way things work over the next few years- the admin getting like 1% of what it wants and losing almost every negotiation while the lapdog press spins every loss as a huge historic win, it's literally the modi model
Let me get this straight. Petro calls for dignified transit. Trump threatens tariffs. Petro smacks Trump in a post threatening his own higher tariffs. And Trump agrees to what Petro asked for. And yet NYT is calling this *Petro* backing down?

Yesterday, we all were laughing at Eric Adams when he suggest that they knew the suspected killer’s name but didn’t want to release it publicly. But imagine how you would have reacted if he’d told us they were looking for Luigi Mangione.

Folks will justify the NYPD murdering people on the subway over a skipped $2.90 fare but not even register this sort of corporate malfeasance for the massive harm that it does to all of us

the subway shooter in 2022 left the keys to the uhaul he rented and his credit card in the subway car he shot up and then wandered around new york for 29 hours and the NYPD only caught him - after dozens of tips - when he called them from a pay phone and told them to come get him
i personally love when the largest police force in the world has to crowdsource their job

fondly recalling how after Jan 6 Congress went home for a long weekend, didn't start impeachment proceedings for a week, which then took another month
It took only ~2.5 hrs for the National Assembly to gather a majority of members (190 of 300) and generate a unanimous vote (190 of 190) to vote down the emergency martial law. The law says the president "shall comply" with parliament's vote, but doesn't specify a time frame.
