How dare journalists decide who is going to serve in govt? It's obvious that having removed Louise Haigh and Angela Raynor, they have their sights on Reeves. Where were they for Johnson et al?

Quick note on this, the interest isn't officially written off, but it's as good as.
Ben Houchen was asked by his Cabinet - three days before financial close - if Teesside Airport was financially viable without giving it this grant.

He said it was.

So far the airport has been given £155m by his combined authority, who have written off £26m in interest payments it doesn't expect.

Didn’t we learn the lesson when Gordon Brown used PFIs for public building construction? Private businesses made sure the contracts were more favourable to them rather than the public. The Government doesn’t have the necessary skills to make sure this doesn’t happen.
🏥 Hospitals built with PFI were found to be 70% more expensive than public builds.

Private partnerships were costly and ineffective last time — saddling the NHS with decades of debt.

So why bring them back… and who really benefits? 👀
