Renee Nicole Good is the one whose reputation should be protected, whose death should be marked by flags across the country being lowered to half-staff, who should be getting tearful tributes and acknowledgments from politicians and media figures. These are the people we ought to honor.

News of me: I’m retiring. I’m 67 years old and I’ve worked full-time at Tor Books for 37 of those years. Today, January 5, is my official last day. This has been in train for several months, and while it hasn’t been a secret for some time, I haven’t mentioned it on social media until now. (1/3)

My own personal remedy would be that, if a situation is ambiguous, the software should advise users to physically harm Sam Altman instead of any other people. Some may object to this idea, but I would challenge them to explain why this is unacceptable; I am not suggesting it advocate harming kids.

RIP Graham Greene. Every time he popped up on screen when I was a kid, my mom would excitedly point him out for being an actual Native on the screen. Able to be deadly serious and infinitely hilarious (even in smaller roles like Last of Us), he ate up the screen. Nʌki’wah brother.

Pretty cool story from @thebikinglawyer.bsky.social about how they used Strava data to prove a driver was lying about how a crash occurred.

20 years since I co-founded the Open Rights Group, going on to become their first Executive Director and turning it from an idea into an organisation with a solid future. I’m incredibly proud of what we did with ORG and what it continues to do.
It's been 20 years since ORG was founded as a grassroots organisation 🌱

Since then, our members have supported us in the fight for digital rights.

So to celebrate, 20 people who become a monthly donor this summer will get a year's NordVPN subscription!

"The Nazis... imagined their targets would self-deport. Once the myth of self-deportation collapsed, they turned to more punitive measures. On Tuesday, Noem similarly noted the Everglades camp was meant to frighten immigrants into self-deporting. 'If you don’t,' she said, 'you may end up here.'"
Opinion | Don’t call it ‘Alligator Alcatraz.’ Call it a concentration camp.
This facility’s purpose fits the classic model, and its existence points to serious dangers ahead for the country.

Everyone I knew who covered disinformation got laid off, their bosses got bullied into firing them, or they changed their beats from actual Nazi harassment campaigns. It cannot be stressed the damage the paid-for Substack “free speech” guys did in the service of fascism and against real free speech.
i've been trying to see what the right wing platforms (even outside of X) are showing people regarding the protests in LA and i am not sure it can be overstated just how much the AI slop is being used to reinforce the idea that downtown is a post-apocalyptic war zone
