And this is the problem. Republicans have always choked down their disagreements with each other and voted for the party. Democrats will defect from their own coalition at the drop of a hat.
It’s a difficult balancing act. You move too far to the center, and the left won’t show up for you. You move too far to the left, and you might alienate the center. I don’t think anyone has figured out the perfect balance.

I remember reusing N95s and wearing trash bags as PPE.
I remember a refrigerated truck sitting in the hospital parking lot as a makeshift morgue because ours was overflowing.
