Last week, ICE arrested and separated a father and son after a routine check-in. Six-year-old Yuanxin had just enrolled in the first grade at an elementary school in Astoria. Now he's in custody, alone. ICE won't say where. This cruelty serves no one. It must end.

Far from the biggest news item today, but I just saw that the legendary Wong Kar Wai has a new 30-episode legacy TV series coming out. What a time to be alive.

📽️ WATCH: The U.S. government doesn’t track how often immigration agents detain citizens. So ProPublica did.

We found more than 170 incidents since the start of Trump’s second term. Americans have been kicked, dragged and held for days without access to lawyers.

Coordinated action has the biggest impact.

EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.

There are reports that the *entire* office of special education at the US Dept of Education has been cut. These hardworking folks ensure kids with disabilities get equal access to a quality education.

America’s children deserve better than this.

Lousy news today. TIMR has put out some of my favorite albums of the past few years... Dummy, Melanas, Guardian Singles, to name a few. It's a tougher grind than ever for indie labels in our modern era, and they were a standout. Godspeed.

Amidst the noise and nonsense of the past week, I’m only now seeing that the world lost the great Hermeto Pascoal this weekend. A big deal in our house not just for his music, but also for his albinism. Shine on.

Pascoal said he had composed thousands of pieces. "I am 100 percent intuitive," he once told NPR. Miles Davis called him one of the most important musicians in the world.

Today, a lawyer buddy of mine asked me to look at a legal issue for him. I did. I told him he couldn't do what he wanted to do. I gave him citations.

He responded with the outputs from Claude and ChatGPT.

Both analyzed the issue incorrectly. Both gave him the answer he wanted to hear.

Terrible news. JK was a force to be reckoned with.
Dang. RIP, Jim Kimball, drummer with Mule, whose self-titled debut album I was heavily addicted to for much of 1993, the year it came out. He was half of the duo that went by the Denison/Kimball Trio. Also played with Jesus Lizard and Laughing Hyenas. A powerhouse.
