A reminder. Scary season starts on October 31, and continues until epiphany, in January.
Our front door doesn’t have a window or peephole. So I like having a way to see who’s out there. But I do not want the cops asking me for surveillance footage of my neighbors. Worse, I don’t want some company deciding to just share it because the taste of shoe leather gets them hot and bothered.

He irradiated their experts. Defendant could call them. He could elicit testimony. But if they criticized our expert on something that the defendant could have clarified, Judge Jackson was going to tell the jury about what happened.

We’ve been fortunate to have him.

We went ballistic. We asked Judge Jackson to strike their experts. He denied our motion. No exclusion. Instead, he did something I’d never seen:

…wasn’t as good as we wanted. Still, our experts did their reconstruction and issued their report.

Fast forward a few months, and his experts issue their report. They did a reconstruction also. On site. With the defendant. And the gun he used. And in the photos, dude was smiling.

…the officer’s movements through the space.

His lawyers went nuts when they found out. They objected and told Judge Jackson it would be too traumatic. Judge Jackson accepted counsel’s representation and said we couldn’t do it.

We found a workaround that got us some of the data we wanted. But it…

…amazing experts. We went out to the scene, and they did a 3d scan of the site. It was amazingly accurate. They dumped it into Unity so we could navigate it. And, when it came time to depose the shooter, they built out a “wireframe” of the site out of 2x4s so they could basically motion capture…

Judge Jackson is an amazing jurist. And a great guy.

In 2020, he wrote an opinion that said damage to property doesn’t warrant denying people their first amendment rights.

He also issued one of the best orders I’ve ever gotten denying my request for relief. We were doing a 1983 case and had…
BREAKING: Judge R. Brooke Jackson in Colorado has ordered the government to follow the law when performing warrantless immigration arrests. In addition to finding the government is engaging in violations, he has imposed documentation requirements to ensure compliance. Story to come.

I addressed a lot of my concerns about camera doorbells by having our external security camera point towards the front door. I can’t see my neighborhood. But I can see who’s at my door. And who is picking up my packages.
“Camera doorbells are social cancer as a technology, breaking down social solidarity and further encouraging people to see strangers with suspicion.”
Christmas is coming, and the Black Friday sales signal we’re in peak gift-buying season.

When you’re picking out gifts for friends and family this year, there’s a whole slew of tech products that are better to avoid. I put together a guide to help you through it.

Everything I can do with paint, I learned from someone else.

Gotta pay it forward.

@warhammerweekly.bsky.social has a good video on painting terrain quickly that I’ve had great luck with.

Not a kit for people in a hurry, but I’m certainly loving the way all the details are getting together. I’m still wondering whether to paint those columns in a bit lighter color, though…

The best apple pies are made with damfine apples, from over Damfine way.

I think that’s referenced elsewhere in the thread.

Though, this is the Internet. There are probably more iterations of that story than stars in the sky.

That second guy looks like he knows that he's doing. Maybe not, but I think that one was bait.

I miss when Twitter was truly great like the time a guy got upset at someone calling out a cricket team and started explaining how bowling worked and at the end OP was like "thanks for explaining btw I hold the world record for most career outs in cricket history"

You’ve been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who’s coming to save you?

Don't worry, Carol. :) We're fine! There's no need to worry about 'rescuing' this individual.

That’s not what these games deliver. They delivered tediousness. Every horizon was more of the same makework. No think you please.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Origins.

I love a big sprawling map with fun things to find on it. Knowing there’s something just over the horizon is the high that convinces me to spend “just 15 minutes” when I should have been asleep an hour ago.
what game is guilty of wasting the most of your time? Not the game you've put the most hours in, the one that has WASTED your time to the most egregious degree

It is. The best in town is going to be Mick Mihm at Ogborn Mihm. I learned everything I know on the topic from him.

Mick doesn’t take things with less than $5M in damages.
