I feel like I say this every year but I really need people to hear it. Halloween is the best American holiday. Just kids outside welcomed into their world, marching around together, showing off their costumes to the elderly, parents meeting parents, neighbors catching up with neighbors.

To my friends who ask "Why don't you draw more for yourself? It should help with burnout and spark your creativity!", that's why. I've been in survival mode for three years straight. Every bit of free time I have goes into commissions or adopts, just to earn enough for food and bills.
It’s really hard to describe to people who are not artists how survival mode does *not* inspire creativity, as the myth would have us believe. It suppresses creativity as you try to limit every possible risk – and the opportunities that come with them.
It turns out building habits and stuff actually requires not being in survival mode, who knew?!
