President Very Awake is 100% ready to string this Habeas dude up by his ankles at Stephen Miller's say-so.

Q: Have you given any more thought to possibly suspending habeas corpus?

TRUMP: Suspending who?

Q: Habeas corpus

TRUMP: I don't know. I'd rather leave that to Kristi.

The story behind this is that the AP reported they knew the troops were arriving because a bunch of porta potties got delivered lol

Some people believe in moral obligations like they believe in dinosaurs—real, but extinct due to climate change.

I believe in moral obligations, but US corporations effectively stopped existing as independent entities on Jan. 20, 2025 when the 1A was repealed and political retribution was legalized. bsky.app/profile/stra...

You don’t believe it’s Apple’s obligation to the country that created it to stand up to attacks on said country?

One of the most nefarious actions that actually takes place on a regular basis is that laws & rules meant to protect those historically violated by our status quo and the individuals upholding it are weaponized against us.

It's also why I think Ethics should be required continuing ed for lawyers.

Anyway, I bet LLMs are really good at understanding and communicating with children, the elderly and people in shock, so I'm sure nothing will fall through the cracks.

Uh-huh. Will the AI be deciding whether the call is an emergency? Or will that be determined by an overworked human with a strong motivation to throw as many calls to the AI as possible?

I bet nobody else will use genAI for personalized crime inspo so one catastrophic fire aside this is probably fine

this is how I, a resident of LA, found out that the Palisades fire was arson, that they caught the guy, and that he used gen AI to work his way up to doing the crime

the city of los angeles burned in january in part because of a man who couldn’t stop generating images of burning cities on ChatGPT, and then after he lit the fire he asked if the fire he started was his fault

yes this timeline is a rough route. yes there are waves of strife. but behind it all lies the inertia of all things which prompted fish to trot out of the ocean and humans to gather in commune. we are driven to fill the nothing with ourselves, with LOVE. its the unconquerable wind behind our sails

Weirdly enough, I think this works. No one is more insecure than a new ICE agent. They want to be the blonde guy in DHS’s AI Nazi posting so badly. Instead, they’ll be guarding indistinguishable suburban warehouse #16361 while inflated frogs and dinosaurs thrust in their face all day every day.

Mike Johnson: "If you're a young, pregnant American citizen women who shows up in an ER and you get treated and they pay the hospital less for treating you than some illegal rabble rouser who came in from some South American country to do us harm, that is wrong."

I think these are useful concepts to help people connect with the experiences of others like them. It's not good to apply them to anyone else without their consent.

As I've said before, I expect issue like this will get a lot worse as access to medical care declines in the US, thanks to the Repubs.

Aside from shattering core state sovereignty, it's saying one state's Guard (TX) is somehow more loyal to the national authority than another's (IL). It's treating the latter as something bordering on hostile, or at least alien. One part of the country and its soldiers are more America than another.

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

Who cares if I "reject" Newsom? I'm not leading a recall effort. I'm not helping the FBI install a secret microphone in his tie. I'm saying he steals from the homeless and vetoes legislation to help trans people, and I think that's loser crap that makes Dems lose. I'm fine with him making Trump mad.
