🧵We are at a critical point in world history. Democracy is being murdered in slow motion. The continued undermining of the right to freedom of assembly & popular protest is just the start. I call on UK MPs who care about democracy to immediately protest against the destruction of democratic norms.

www.theguardian.com/business/202... This is a really bad idea, A&E is a disaster zone as it is after closing time so this will put even worse strain on the NHS. The police will also bear the brunt of more disorder and more violence. Crime against women will soar at weekends.

How much further to the right do Labour have to go before you realise that they are no longer a left-wing party? I’d be happy to see a Green/Lib Dem coalition with perhaps SNP thrown in. Then we might get the electoral reform and humane government we need.

You should be angry at private companies making massive profits from our taxes to house the most desperate people in appalling conditions... And NOT the people forced to live in them.

If all politics is local, you’d think people would be more engaged in local elections. I think a factor is that local government has so little power to change things that people turn off. Devolving more power including tax raising powers might energise local government & get voters more engaged.

It’s staggering that the turnout was 33% 😱 Something needs to be done to understand why local democracy attracts so little interest. Of course it’s born of cynicism but there must be more to it than just that, is it also practical things like elderly voters not able to get out to vote for example?

You can’t even get arresting demonstrators right. @yvettecooper-mp.bsky.social your government is a blundering disgrace. This is what happens when you implement draconian legislation to criminalise peaceful protest, innocent people suffer. As the most senior Labour minister on Bluesky, pass this on!

UNLAWFUL ARREST

This woman was arrested for holding a sign with “I do not support the proscription of Palestine Action” on it, a totally lawful statement to make, even under the Labour government’s absurd new laws proscribing the direct action group.

The Greens requested an interview on the Laura Kuenssberg Show with Zack Polanski when he was elected leader, but were denied, with a promise to interview him during Green conference instead.

This was then scrapped citing the Manchester synagogue attack. Polanski is both Jewish and from Manchester

While the PSNI is sending officers to London to arrest peaceful protestors - despite claiming a funding and staffing crisis at home - loyalist paramilitaries are threatening to burn down council property in Belfast over Irish language signage.

It must be because you’re just not representative enough of the British electorate. I was going to tag Laura but surprise surprise she’s not here. @vicderbyshire.bsky.social perhaps you could remind Laura of the GP’s existence please? Thanks 🙏

I'm Jewish. I'm also Mancunian.

Every other national party leader was interviewed by Laura Kunesberg during their conference.

Maybe the BBC thought as someone who also supports Palestine - I had nothing to say?
