It means little for Americans to apologize for what our government has done. The harm it's lately caused the world is incalculable—from the millions who'll die from USAID's shuttering to abandoning our allies and promoting bloody adventurism abroad.

Please at least know that some of us are ashamed.

If U.S. foreign policy is being shaped by Donald Trump’s resentment over a Nobel Peace Prize he didn’t get to control, then we have a far bigger problem than Venezuela.

World affairs cannot be run by wounded pride.

A Nobel Prize, a Bruised Ego, and the Danger of Letting Trump Run the World
If U.S. policy toward Venezuela is being shaped by Donald Trump’s resentment over a Nobel Peace Prize he didn’t control, then the problem isn’t strategy—it’s his fitness to wield power at all.

As of this week, millions of Americans are now paying thousands more for health insurance.

If the President and Congressional GOP think Washington has the capacity to "run" Venezuela right now, why won't they fix the insurance cost crisis they've created here at home?

We are a country whose Constitution, according to the Supreme Court, gives our own presidents immunity for crimes committed while in office, but we will prosecute presidents of other countries for alleged crimes and invade them to execute arrest warrants.

It's an old and obvious pattern. An unpopular president - failing on the economy and losing his grip on power at home - decides to launch a war for regime change abroad.

The American people don’t want to “run” a foreign country while our leaders fail to improve life in this one.

If accountability applies only to other nations’ leaders, does that standard now suggest their leaders are more “qualified” than ours, especially given that our president has been convicted of 34 felonies?

The administration has argued that American courts can hold foreign presidents accountable for crimes, while the U.S. president remains immune from similar scrutiny.

What the United States did in Venezuela is prohibited under international law, which bars the use of force as an instrument of national policy.

1. Maduro is not a good guy by any stretch of the imagination.
2. But capturing him through an extra-legal action that violates international law undermines any US credibility with Russia in Ukraine and China with Taiwan.
3. We have a terrible history with topping leaders without a post-war plan.

This is about oil (+ distracting from Epstein), not drugs.

One of the unacknowledged advantages of this awful era is that it's revealing for all to see the putrid connections between great wealth and great power.

The intentions of the oligarchs are fully exposed and more blatant than ever.

But remember: We outnumber the oligarchs.
