Cancer research, searching for imo
As soon as I switched to bluesky, something just unhitched in my brain and twitter became X.
i saw some light mocking aimed at someone for saying x instead of twitter, but nah, sorry, it's x now. twitter's dead

A new mechanism for cancer-induced immune evasion. We knew about cancer cells hijacking mitochondria. Now we learn about how their mitochondrial transfer to T cells impairs the tumor immune response.

This week I’ve watched my friends who have spent their lives working on DEI and accessibility lose their jobs, or be told to erase everything they’ve built.

Not just people in gov work, but in other companies too.

I am scared for my livelihood at the minimum, and dont know what to expect

Extremely bad
Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.

I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions

Man, the XGBoost library picked a heck of a time to start having a "blow up when called" conflict with sklearn, 5 days before the pediatric sepsis challenge initial models are due

Depressingly, seeming more like I was wrong, and I DIDN’T delay the ivermectin video for so long it became a moot point

The thing that blows me away the most about the meta profiles thing is how the profiles are just straightforwardly talking about fake things they “did”.

No links to like “here’s how to do your own coat drive” or anything, just, “I did this thing and you should be inspired”
Meta tried to convince everyone to hold business meetings in VR with cartoonish legless avatars. Now they think we want to interact with a.i. bots on social. Do these people

(a) ever use their own products

(b) ever talk to actual human people

What’s the point in posting a good reads summary where you claim you read a hundred and sixty books last year?

Why do you want me to know you as a liar?

the answer to a question in a headline is always "no", but never has the answer to a question in a headline been MORE "no" than how much "no" it is here

We gotta reject “Well, RFK jr. is right about some things” and accept “if we don’t confront the real problems with our systems, it becomes much easier for con artists like this guy to manipulate people.”
