While I didn't officially start being active on the site until 11/25/16, I was pretty much lurking 2005~2009. On the other hand, with strong affiliates like The Spriter's Resource, I was able to mesh with the massive communtiy pretty quickly.

They can’t “just try harder” their way into housing.

It’s the system that’s failing.

Most of us are one emergency away from being homeless ourselves.

We need affordable housing, universal basic income, healthcare & social supports.

We need a safety net

None of it was possible with my diseased uterus still inside me.

I’m one of the lucky ones. I was only 24 when they operated, so I didn’t lose nearly as many years as most women do.

Many are forced to wait until they’re 35 or older to access the care they need.

I regret nothing about my hysterectomy. It gave me my life back.

It’s been nearly twenty years and I’ve never changed my mind on children.

I was able to work a job I loved, have exciting hobbies and travel the world.

Why was I finally able to access the surgery I had begged for years to receive?

I started bleeding out in the ER. They couldn’t stop it and I was dying.

Even then they asked my boyfriend if he would still love me once I was infertile.

These hormonal medications aren’t without risk.

They may be the best option for many patients, but they weren’t the best option for me.

I had to endure years of complications, hospitalizations and side effects before finally getting the hysterectomy.

Unfortunately the doctors didn’t see it that way, and one of the drugs I was forced on was Depo Provera.

I had horrendous and intolerable side effects so I only lasted a few months on it… but seeing it linked to brain tumours enrages me.

It was a disgusting display of misogyny and patriarchy that robbed me of years of my life.

We have informed consent for a reason.

I knew surgery would mean I could never have kids…. It was my RIGHT to make that informed choice.

The fact that I didn’t want kids didn’t matter. The fact that I wasn’t healthy enough to have them didn’t matter.

I was told I would feel differently when I was “in love”.

That I might meet the man of my dreams and he might leave me if I’m barren.

I was told that until I had tried every pharmaceutical option, surgery wouldn’t be considered.

The surgery would cure the adenomyosis and greatly improve the endometriosis… but I was denied autonomy over my own body.

All for a hypothetical future man and baby.
