I finally had to go to the counter and say, I came in because it was empty but it’s been 20 minutes and I need to leave so I either need my drink or a refund. I am out of my allotted time for standing here watching you make drinks for people who aren’t here.

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections
