Big utes and SUVs are a symptom of car-brained Australia, which is a symptom of low-density sprawl.
Melbourne keeps on travelling down the wrong road, it's well beyond time to turn around.

I'm no fan of building inner-city roads, but if we have this new toll-free bypass opening, then it's a good time to adjust King Street intersections to stop giving through-traffic priority over CBD trams, buses and pedestrians on cross streets. bigbuild.vic.gov.au/... #Melbourne
Melbourne’s new city bypass ready to open next month
The West Gate Tunnel Project’s Wurundjeri Way extension will open to traffic from 27 October 2025, providing a direct new link into the Docklands and Marvel Stadium precinct.

Come on, you can't divide Melbourne up like this. Everywhere outside the red line is uninhabitable.

I’m in a medium sized car right now and I’m still being dwarfed by this Yank tank. It’s so big it’s registered as a literal truck.
As a cyclist, this is deadset terrifying.
If you care about road safety, if you care about children, you should be terrified too.
Photo of the rear of a Chevrolet Silverado, taken from the passenger seat of another car. The top of bonnet of the car I’m in is at the bottom of the Chevrolet. It’s huge. I’ve covered the number plate with a death emoji but I’ve also circled it to show its type of registration is “national heavy vehicle”

NSW road fines:

Driving 10 km/h over limit : $149
Driving 20 km/h over limit: $345
Cycling without a helmet: $410

Bicycle NSW is right to finally call out these wildly disproportionate penalties. bicyclensw.org.au/disproportio...

This is an INSANE decision by the E.U.

“By signing up to mutual recognition of vehicle standards with the U.S., the E.U. has waved the white flag on road safety. This is not a technical detail – it is a political choice that puts trade convenience ahead of saving lives.”

This will kill people.

Massive American-style utes that don't fit in most carparks are getting big tax breaks.

"They're not being bought by farmers and tradies, they're being bought by people who just want to have a big car to drive around city streets."
