I see it as being a symbol of car culture. Why would you do all your shopping at once if you could easily walk or bike?
biketalk.bsky.social
I think Diane’s point was that it’s set up to be done by car. The great posts I’ve seen about shopping at Costco by bike wouldn’t make sense if our infrastructure facilitated it.

“The prudent driver sets the speed not the imprudent driver”

Two lane roads restrict antisocial driving behaviors in safe and effective ways.

"California’s car culture currently thrives on a collective cognitive dissonance and it’s reflected in our infrastructure. We call ourselves environmentalists but allow our transit systems to languish. We remove bike lanes just months after installing them We reject much-needed housing near transit"
Can San Diego End its Dependence on Cars?
Unless you have no other choice or pay ‘walkable neighborhood’ rent prices, going out of your way to reject car culture feels borderline masochistic.

Comment period extended until September 8! Sources say they may have gotten too many comments in favor of Bike infrastructure, or not enough of the kind of comments they want. So we gotta keep it up.

DOT is extending its public comment period requesting ideas for the next surface transportation bill, until Sept 8th. Maybe they haven't gotten the comments they want and/or they've gotten too many comments like ours, which they don't want. so send in comments now. bikeleague.org/take-action/...

Secretary Duffy believes the U.S. DOT should NOT be funding bicycle infrastructure.
He said
“I do think you see more congestion when you add bike lanes and take away vehicle lanes. That’s a problem.”

Zohran’s citibike numbers make me feel like we need to start demanding bike share stats from our politicians in the same way we demand tax returns
