"The Trump administration’s barrage of attacks on trans people can seem haphazard, but as elements of a denationalization project, they fall into place."

Powerful column by M. Gessen.

The message is that we are a threat to the nation. The subtext is that we are not of this nation.

I know this first hand. When I was a child, my entire community was branded as spies and sabateurs, justifying our internment inside barbed wire camps for years without due process, trial or charge.

I did it in two weeks. Why can't Poilievre do it after 3 years?

Staff at local Asian grocer offered us blueberries at checkout.

Me: Where are they from?

Her (with a smile): Mexico!

Me: Are a lot of people asking?

Her (nods): If anything is from the US, no one wants it.

These words resonated with me - bringing to mind PP’s recurring “Canada is broken” theme. We are not broken - we are strong & resilient. 🇨🇦

My dad has dementia. He stopped being able to understand his cellphone about 6 months ago and I finally cancelled the line. Said goodbye to the phone number he had since 1968 and that I grew up with. Is it weird that this made me sad?

Just finished The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta. It’s entirely written as poetry - which I’m generally not a fan of - but this stuff was solid. Recommend.

I’ve had a monthly Amazon subscription set up to send some items to my dad at the care home; today I cancelled the subscription and set up a new one with London Drugs. 🇨🇦

I never watch Fallon but his ‘joke’ about the US annexing Canada makes me loathe him right now. So flippant about the anxiety Canadians are feeling.

In other news, we cancelled our Nexflix subscription. More time for reading! #booksky

We cancelled #Netflix today. By chance, our monthly billing date was…tomorrow. Trying to wean ourselves off contributing to the American economy. Told Netflix that Trump was the reason. 👋

Reading ‘The Other Black Girl’ has taught me more about Black hair than I would have imagined possible. I’m loving the learning and insight into African-American culture. #booksky #blackhistorymonth

While the provinces are banning US alcohol, can we allow in alcohol from other provinces? I really enjoy some of the Ontario wines (except Wayne Gretzky - he’s on the naughty list).

I think now is a good time to reclaim the 🇨🇦 flag from the damage done to it by the “Freedom” Convoy a**hats. We’ve still got work to do as a nation, but unity is critical right now. #neverpolievre #abc

I’ve gone ahead and set up a StoryGraph account and imported all of my reads from Goodreads. This app is independent and Black female owned - and doesn’t belong to Bezos. I’ll probably delete Goodreads.
