Here is where the Dutch political parties stand on higher education. We better hope for a coalition involving D66 and GroenLinks/PvdA...
Table showing the positions of the different political parties on various aspects of higher education. Most negative are JA21, PVV, and NSC. VVD, BBB and CDA are also not strong supporters of higher education.

Am I jumping the gun if I speculate these were far right sympathizers, based on a fairly established pattern? (Why, again, is there an unwillingness amongst European politicians to frame this as a key political and societal problem?)

"If we lose hope, we're doomed."

We must continue Dr. Jane Goodall's mission and all fight for the future of the planet.

The occupation murdered Palestinian journalist Yahia Barzaq today. Before the genocide, he captured beautiful moments with newborns. He was then forced to document the death of Gaza’s children. The occupation murdered him today.

Latest Dutch polling, with one month to election day.
-Wilders way down on last election but still easily most popular
-Centre right CDA the big winners/kingmakers
-Green/left holding steady
-D66 doing pretty well too
-NSC collapse is embarrassingly total: from 20 seats to 0 in less than 2 years!

This is a frequently stated chain of causality, and temporally it fits, although in practice it seems that states like Germany were looking to rein in migrant labour already in the late 1960s with the onset of economic recession. The oil shock provided a final reason.

Gustavo Petro, Colombia’s president, addressed the UN general assembly on Tuesday to call for felon Donald Trump to once again face “criminal proceedings” — this time over the US strikes on alleged drug trafficking boats in the Caribbean.

As UEFA moves towards suspending Israel as it did Russia, the US says it will try to stop Israel being banned from the World Cup. Meanwhile, Trump says he'll move WC games from host cities who don't comply with his policies. It's one of the most politically charged World Cups. Morning Star column.

Netanyahu orders IDF to broadcast his UNGA speech over loud speakers in Gaza. I'm dead serious.

In March of 1945, the US Army issued this "fact sheet" to guide conversations with soldiers on the topic of fascism, paying particular attention to the ongoing threat that domestic fascist movements posed to the US. Their analysis of what a homegrown US fascism would look like is interesting.

WAR DEPARTMENT-WASHINGTON 25, D. C. • 24 March 1945 FASCISM!
Note For This Week's Discussion:
Fascism is not the easiest thing to identify and analyze; nor, once in power, is it easy to destroy. It is important for our future and that of the world that as many of us as possible understand the causes and practices of fascism, in order to combat it. Points to stress are: (1) Fascism is more apt to come to power at a time of economic crisis;
(2) fascism inevitably leads to war; (3) it can come to any country; (4) we can best combat it by making our democracy work.

I generally support boycotting (ie. FIFA, Eurovision) but totally agree with you here on this one.

Is this what ordinary Dutch people really want? A society overrun by violent skinheads?

Far right extremism has become normalized in the Netherlands, warns the counter-terrorism agency NCTV.

We have Wilders' fellow travellers - the BBB, the NSC, and the VVD - to thank for that.

I am fearful of what is coming in the October 29 elections.

Interesting event and potential counterforce to the global populist right threat... hardly revolutionary but at least returning to global cooperation when the norm has been fragmentation and passivity. No coverage in the (unfortunately now captured) NYT or the BBC. Thoughts?

This is a very important empirical (!) study accounting for the mental health impact of genocide on health care workers in Gaza. Much respect to the researchers who conducted a survey under the hardest conditions, especially those in Gaza. These urgent testimonies warrant to be read and acted upon

It's ridiculous that Benny Gantz managed to get an op-ed in the NYT. The guy is universally mocked in Israel as useless and worse. His party is now a statistical error in the polls. Unclear that it would clear electoral threshold to enter the next Knesset. The guy's political career is over.
