I will say this - EVERYONE with power seems to be desperately hoping that unpopularity does the work that consequences need to do

Here is a sitting Democratic Congressmember pointing out that the US bombing Yemen is a war crime. This is possible! It is a thing you can do, if you're an elected official.

Fuck these people.
The senate is now voting on the confirmation of Christopher Landau for Deputy Secretary at the State Dept, who's promoted the destruction of USAID. Amy Klobuchar just voted yes.

I agree. The Democrats had a chance to save the Republic when they won that 2020 election - that’s why we voted them in. and they failed.
i had thought biden was generally pretty good other than gaza but i've retroactively decided not locking mussolini up on inauguration day is the single worst decision ever made by a president

people really should start treating politics like sports, because you'll never see a sports fan talk about how well their team played after an embarrassing collapse
Seeing all the fired up resistance libs on here and their barely-coherent posts in defense of the Democratic establishment really drives home that the two-party system in this country is an incestuous cycle of controlled opposition we'll never get out of alive

no shot at aaron but if left of center types want their voting base and the general public to believe in the rule of law, they need to put forward leaders who actually care about the rule of law, prioritize it, and enforce it, even when it’s politically inconvenient
Emphasizing again that anyone who responds to "that's illegal" with some variant of "lol all law is meaningless you're a sucker for thinking that matters" is actively doing PR for Trump and helping him.

Nihilism about the law is the best way to make sure that the rule of law dies a quicker death.

Resigning now will be less humiliating than losing your primary by 20 points to a political novice who simply makes it clear that they’ll actually fight for us.
If you're an elected Dem and your entire resistance plan is to just post on Twitter and Bluesky until midterms to roll around: you are actively accelerating the destruction of our democracy and you're as big of a problem as Musk.

Just resign and let someone who will fight every day take your place.

If the Democrats can't demonstrate that the power of the state can be used to rein in people like Elon Musk and Donald Trump there's really no reason to ever vote for them again.

You're nuts if you're questioning the wisdom and leadership of the Democratic Party right now. They're not the problem. The problem is the voters. What we need to do is replace 300 million voters

yeah my take is actually closer to something like "people got a taste of a real social safety net during covid and returning to the status quo ante has permanently changed their idea about what a good economy is"
