Since the Democrats worked extra hard to hide who actually supported this, I think the No Kings/Resistance position should be to primary every Democrat unless they publicly call for Schumer's ouster this week

Either they go into total rebellion mode, which they won't, or the people will

Also to be clear: I do not respect the Senators who voted yes tonight, and their careers in public service should end. They do not understand the stakes of this moment and continue to treat the GOP like a partner in dealmaking and not a fascist threat to the country.
I've made my position very clear tonight that I think the healthcare fight is too important to leave to a "maybe" future vote but this is absolutely right.

And it's why blame MUST be placed first and foremost on the GOP and their merciless hostage-taking.
From a political point of view, I don't think the Dem management of the shutdown endgame has been good, but it is worth remembering there are real costs (RIP my mentions).

If he isn't willing to tell his colleagues to vote no, then he has failed as a leader and needs to resign.
Schumer: "I must vote no. I can not, in good faith, support this CR. ... Make no mistake about it, the American people know who is inflicting this pain on them."

He stops short of urging his colleagues to vote "no."

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Well, that was the gut punch of all gut punches. A hell of a season, but the title still eludes the Current. See y'all in 2026.

This is the third or fourth example of “nobody else is reporting this but a press outlet generally hostile to the Democratic Party is saying Democrats are on the verge of caving so let’s treat it as real” bullshitery I’ve seen since yesterday morning.
You can always tell that someone is a very savvy consumer of political reporting, & definitely operating in good faith, when they treat Axios exclusives like they’re not hackery &/or fuckery.
You’ve got to be kidding me

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Man, this is a really good feeling.

Can we do it again in 2 weeks, Husker fans? And then again on Black Friday?

What a game by the Big Red. This UCLA team isn't great, but with a backup true freshman QB making his first start on the road?

I'll take it every day. #GBR

I have appreciated EJ getting this national audience, even if it's after dark.

What a monster game.

Back to the Kirkland 20 year rum to finish this game out. I really hope I'm not drinking away my pain tonight.

Silver lining - UCLA took a lot of time on that drive. Just need a couple of first downs to finish this game off.

This PBP duo is so bad. How are they calling an over-the-air national game?

I had hope for the bounce back by Nebraska, but I did not see this coming.

I think a lot about the story Carl Reiner told: he’d have been a sewing machine repairman if not for a free WPA drama class. That led to other theater work, to Sid Caesar, to Mel Brooks, and all the rest. All because of one free class paid for by a government that felt the arts were worth teaching.
you ever think about the works progress administration? I sure do. I wish that was a thing now. I would be so glad to contribute my labor to like. A random ass local bridge

related but usual reminder that if you want to do something about law enforcement behaving badly - federal or not! - you need to get rid of qualified immunity and put the fear of life-shattering consequences in the people carrying out the actual work. that’s how you stop it
