Andy Serkis is a terrific actor and his performance in Andor was incredible but you could not pay me enough to watch Animal Farm.
Shower thought: if Andy Serkis' Animal Farm is this bad, how bad will Andy Serkis' Hunt for Gollum be?

A while back on here a critic (maybe Nina Metz?) commented on the level of craftsmanship that they saw in films from the 1970s and 1980s and felt like some of that was gone and honestly I think that's right and I think that's part of why the Knives Out series stands out so much.

harry and sally are iconic but I look at my husband so often and say what Marie and Jess say after the phone scene:

“tell me I’ll never have to be out there again”
Also discovered a while back that there are people walking this earth who have never seen When Harry Met Sally - you must. Really, you must.

If you've never seen Spinal Tap you do need to see it. Just be aware you'll be quoting it for days after. Weeks even.

This is the exact lighting they use for the pic to accompany a profile of a professor who got suspended because he kept using slurs in class as a supposed intellectual provocation.
I guess this has probably already gone viral somewhere but I am simply dying at this picture of a bear that looks like it hired a photographer to do a glamour shoot

I've said this before on here but will repeat it: when The Apprentice debuted my then-roommate liked to watch it and I refused to be in the same room with it and I was blunt about why: I thought Trump was a vile, morally repellent human being who had no business having a TV show.

Thinking, for no particular reason, about how Obama responded to a horrid death (and if you have not seen this, watch it, it is one of the most amazing speeches ever given by an American president).

Medicaid expansion was part of the ACA. 700,000 people have health care today that didn't have it yesterday.
A huge milestone: 700,000 North Carolinians now have access to health care thanks to Medicaid expansion. We can accomplish so much when we come together and put the well-being of North Carolinians first.

Re: the handful of GOP Congresspeople tsk-tsking at Trump's ugly post about Reiner: that's all it is, tsk-tsking, and a smidgen of embarrassment that Trump is making very clear that the pearl-clutching over reactions to Charlie Kirk's death was a load of horseshit.

One way that the reaction to Rob Reiner's murder mirrors Charlie Kirk's is that the best way to eulogize each of them is to quote their words, and in both cases, doing so pisses off conservatives.
Rob Reiner: “Silence in the face of authoritarianism is complicity. Speaking out is a patriotic act. Democracy doesn’t defend itself. It requires participation, vigilance, and courage from ordinary people."

People got fired for literally just reposting Kirk's words after he died. Lots of people felt like he endangered them, or saw them as lesser humans. Reiner...simply did not do any of that.

Apart from the fact the leader of the right mocked Reiner, one small difference is that Reiner's day job was making movies that people loved, while Kirk's starting point was creating enemies list of professors to be fired or harassed. These are not the same things.

people crying over chomsky on this website are repulsive frankly. he was quite plainly a piece of shit long before anything related to epstein came out
fuck right off with this too please.

Chomsky has been quite clear that he doesn’t think his relationship with Epstein is anyone else’s business and we can and should draw adverse inferences from that.

sorry he wrote some things you liked; bold thinkers can be monsters too.
Noam Chomsky’s emails to Jeffrey Epstein display none of the fawning chatter found from, say, Larry Summers. And he does not appear to have been co-opted by whatever access Epstein provided.

Just in case any journalist or editor reading this is tempted to minimize Trump's Reiner post because it's a "showbiz thing" and "real" stories are happening: No. It's a President thing and a decency thing, and if you don't understand that those things are newsworthy, you are failing in your duties.

What the Noam Chomsky–Jeffrey Epstein E-mails Tell Us
Chomsky has often suffered fools, knaves, and criminals too lightly. Epstein was one of them. But that doesn’t mean Chomsky was part of the “Epstein class.”
