Just a reminder that the federal minimum wage in the United States has been $7.25 per hour since July 2009, the last time Congress raised it. The overall cost of living, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), has increased by 36.41% between 2009 and 2022 according to In2013dollars.com.

When they taught us about the Great Depression in school, I remember learning that the market didn’t just suddenly crash on Black Tuesday, but was preceded by a series of wild spikes and declines due to investor speculation. Not sure why that memory popped up today.
