Caves are “conservative environments”. As many caves are able to archive paleoclimate, paleoenvironmental, and anthropological records, among others. In show caves, we observe that the major anthropological form of record are signatures. This picture show many signatures recorded for 200 years

"Sandstone" is a statistical entity. Every grain of sand is individual.
The mineral zircon has played a central role in understanding deep time. These detrital zircons are from Cambrian sandstones in NY, and they have accumulated radiation damage, which causes disorder and volume changes. This mosaic took some time to make. All c-axis aligned. #thinsectionthursday
