Here is a student project idea. Do an inventory of public meetings on housing or transportation projects, and calculate what percentage are during work hours or dinner hours, held in transit deserts, offer childcare, are conducted in more than one language, only sent notices to home owners, etc.

Talk to your family about:
-Single-stair buildings
-Double-loaded corridors
-Point access blocks
-Egress reform
-Single-stair buildings again
Holidays are a great opportunity to chat with family & friends about abundant housing! Just remember:
* Assume good faith.
* Be mindful of prior interest/knowledge.
* Clear, direct language beats jargon (“legalize homes of all shapes & sizes”, not “end single-family zoning”).
Cheers!

HOUSING THE HOMELESS SAVES MONEY IN FINLAND: “a recent study showed the savings in emergency healthcare, social services & the justice system totalled as much as €15,000 a year for every homeless person in properly supported housing.”

It works AND it saves money.

'It’s a miracle': Helsinki's radical solution to homelessness
Finland is the only EU country where homelessness is falling. Its secret? Giving people homes as soon as they need them – unconditionally

So many great ACUs (Accessory Commercial Units) on Piedmont Ave in Oakland.

You can see all of these buildings were originally residential-only, but at some point the owner tacked on a business out front.

This is no longer legal (or if legal, it is not feasible) in Oakland.

On the bottom: a raised crosswalk with daylighting, where the intersection narrows for better visibility and shorter crossing distance.

On the top: a traditional crosswalk where the sidewalk essentially disappears into the road for crossing.

Continuing to tinker with ideas for a single stair multifamily building on a standard 33x122 lot in Vancouver.

The BC code requirements for 4+ storeys, single stair include a full size elevator and 5' wide stairs, with fire separated stair wells. This makes for a pretty big core on a small lot.

Imagine … taking a train from Brantford to Goderich … or from Glencoe to Strathroy … or from Palmerston to Elora … or, well, to just about anywhere (our rail network in 1901).

PARIS: In the last 20 years, 44 hectares of Paris car parking has been transformed, making room for wider sidewalks, bikes and buses (15ha), bike racks, EV spots, accessible space, & 2.2K new patios/terraces for outdoor dining. 90% of trips in the city are via walking, biking & transit.

Switching from Twitter to BlueSky is a bit like moving to a new city. In this case, your new city is a lot less toxic, more friendly, and somehow some friends from your old city moved to the new one with you

Bluesky, which I never used, is looking better as a place to go that isn't Twitter!

That said, I'm no longer a sound guy due to the job field! Retraining into Urban Design / Urban Planning. If you're a sound follower, be ready to see more of that (also get it if you leave LMAO)
