Santa's bike-stand gave me the confidence to attempt a fork-swap. A new one arrives tomorrow. Wish me luck. (Also, only now seeing this: why did I not take out the battery? Ugh. 🤦‍♂️)

I took two #LargeFormat self-portraits.

LEFT: Gundlach Series-B Portrait Lens 11 x 14 (18" f/4)
RIGHT: Gundlach Rapid Rectilinear 6½ x 8½ (10½" f/8)

LEFT is longer(46mm equiv) / faster / expensive / gigantic
RIGHT is wider(27mm equiv) / slower / cheaper / small

Which portrait is better?

I saw this tunnel of xmas-lights on my commute, and luckily had my GFX50R and MMZ KO-140M in my backpack.
That lens is amazing. Dirt-cheap, even when brand-new old stock, #Petzval lens from the CCCP. Big glass with the swirl of swirls.

@johnwsheldon.bsky.social I got interesting results from the Gundlach Rapid Rectilinear experiment.

When pushed into macro (subject distance a hair inside 2·f) it covers (and more) for a wide-angle portrait.

Subject at 1m (almost 4·f) does not cover at all. (And I couldn't get ∞ on my 16x16")

Rehoused in a 3d-printed barrel, this Gundlach-Manhattan Convertible Rapid Rectilinear 6½ x 8½ is ready for a new life.
I measured it at 10½ inch focal length.

hiding this destructive, degenerative and derivative software under the guise of empowering girls in a STEM related field is sinister.

AI has actively made life worse for literally everyone

- tech is now more expensive
- you cannot trust most media of reality anymore
- programs barely function
- energy prices
- literal psychosis
- your voice can be literally stolen for evil
- more spyware

but hey, you can avoid paying an artist.

Let me guess… the blue sky captcha got broken yesterday, and unleashed a horde of robots today?

Another platform ruined.

I think this would have been a great photo without the van.

I did not have the extension for a closer shot, and swing against tree background does not work.

I will have to come back tomorrow, and hope for no parked car.

The French eBay lot came with two brass petzvals, a 150mm one and a 450mm one.

The 150 was a useful match for medium format GFX, as a long portrait lens.

The 450 is a match for my Abracam 16x16” ultra #largeformat as a normal angle lens. Tomorrow I will mount the adapter that I made and test it.

The numbers in here are hilarious.

Do you use AI on the job?
Execs: 87%
Managers: 57%
Workers: 27%

Planned investment by 2030: $5T
"Necessary" annual revenue to justify that spend: $650B
Current annual revenue: $50B
Three years into the generative-AI wave, demand for the technology seems surprisingly flimsy
Investors expect AI use to soar. That’s not happening
Recent surveys point to flatlining business adoption
