This is now a DC appreciation account.

Has anyone even burned a flag in any of these protests in the past few months? Serious question, given the only example I can think of is the veteran by the White House a couple months ago, later on the same day of Trump's anti-flag burning EO.

Trump: "We took the freedom of speech away because that's been through the courts and the courts said you have freedom of speech, but what has happened is when they burn a flag it agitates and irritates crowds."

“The air traffic system, in general, is stressed to the max,” a veteran air traffic controller working at a major East Coast airport told Forbes on Tuesday, adding “sick outs will continue to happen because the [controllers] aren’t fit for duty.”

Overstressed, Unpaid Air Traffic Controllers ‘Aren’t Fit For Duty,’ Says Agency Veteran
Cracks in the air travel system are widening, as air traffic controllers bear the strain of an understaffed system and no pay until the government shutdown ends.

That's fair, actually. The one Marvel film I have watched and truly liked was Black Panther. A lot of interesting ideas in that one. I didn't need to see a sequel though. The endless sequels phenomenon is something I could generally do without.

To be fair, I have extremely intelligent friends whose jobs involve thinking 10 hours a day about stressful subjects. Although the Marvel and DC universes aren't my thing generally, I appreciate the desire to tune out. Just not all.the.time.

Wow, I remember when that book came out. Cable TV barely existed and nobody knew what a World Wide Web was, let alone Facebook.

(She says as she spends two hours a day reading and posting on the Internet...)

Boring isn't boring when you understand it. But understanding requires at least a basic level of civic education and reading comprehension beyond sixth grade.

Good lord. Embarrassing is the right word. Both sides-ing news reporting is bad enough, but both sides-ing the DOJ by pitting administrations against each other when Trump uniquely uses the DOJ like his own legal goon squad is another level.

So cool that whenever someone asks the president, “did you eat the Lindbergh baby” he’s like, “no but I’d be allowed to, I have the right to, I might do it later”

The key to this argument is near the end of the piece: politicians are not supposed to be entertainment. Yet Trump got elected twice in part because of his entertainment value. Arguably this is a larger cultural issue: not the swearing per se but our constant need to be entertained.

Every other outlet reporting that House Republicans are in open revolt while the Senate Republicans feel boxed in, but yeah, the Free Press has its finger right on the meme pulse of things.

This is the kind of free-thinking, hard-hitting journalism they're going to be getting at CBS soon.

This is getting wild.

The states of Iowa, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and 14 others have just asked for permission to file THEIR amicus brief in IL v. Trump.
The States of Iowa, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina and 14 additional States
respectfully move for leave to submit the attached amicus curiae brief in support of Defendants
and their opposition to Plaintiffs’ requested temporary restraining order and preliminary
injunction. Proposed amici are States with a vested interest in federalism, the relationship between
States and the federal government, and deploying the National Guard. We also each have a vital
interest in supporting the President and Congress in enacting and enforcing valid immigration
laws. Every State has a responsibility to protect our citizens.
The federalization of States’ National Guard units is a matter of profound public
importance, as it directly implicates the delicate balance of power between state and federal
governments—a true cornerstone of Federalism. States generally maintain authority over their
National Guard units, allowing governors to deploy them for state-specific needs, such as disaster
response or public safety. Federalization of state National Guard units without gubernatorial

Marjorie Taylor Greene just said the Republican Party is “getting destroyed” during this government shutdown as they refuse to protect health care.

“Everyone’s just getting destroyed... Republicans, you have no solutions... It is hurting so many people.”

OK. It's going to be coming out soon because of the relentless investigations of Pam Bondi and Kash Patel, so I might as well admit it before the news breaks:

I am the General Counsel of Antifa.

Pre Musk I met a lot of great people on Twitter. Some long standing friends, some of whom I might have dated if we lived closer. Hashtags used to help people find one another.

The sigh I expel when you undermine the whole “without fear or favor” part by using Trump and Hegseth’s make-believe name for the Defense Department.

CNN is now using the Trump preferred “Department of War” name in its official statements

(PS this doesn't mean I completely agree with Chait. It means we can't move the country left without winning, and winning means speaking to what the majority of voters need. Republicans are bad at this too. Why are we worse at it than they are???)

My template right now might be Sarah McBride. She defends her trans identity vociferously when needed. But it is not her focus politically. She focuses on the economic issues and needs of her constituents first and foremost. She creates change with her excellence and by advocating for her state. 2/2

I've been thinking a LOT about this. I think many Democrats believe themselves to be both activists and politicians. I am politically quite left of center, but we can't make change unless we WIN. That doesn't mean milquetoast policy, it means emphasizing our policies that work for the many. 1/2

"The Dems pragmatic wing has been pleading to broaden the tent, ideally before the Trump administration stamps out all opposition. Party progressives seem determined to reeducate the public rather than compromise for their votes."

Democrats Still Have No Idea What Went Wrong
The party’s progressives seem to think the problem is not with their platform but with voters.

This is one of the reasons I keep following you. I don't have to agree with everything you say, but you know things I don't. I spent the other evening looking at definitions of fascism, totalitarianism, authoritarianism, etc. because I realized I am not the expert.

Same. Ugh. I've been holding on for the good journalism but I have to draw the line somewhere.
