Victoria actually gets a lot less rain than Montreal and less than Toronto too. We're a unique dry spot in the rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains and get about half of what Vancouver gets.

Average annual rainfall:
Vancouver: 1119.2mm
Montreal: 834.9mm
Toronto: 714.0mm
Victoria: 583.1mm

I would imagine @familycycles.bsky.social is a major part of why.

Yep, they're everywhere! My bedroom windows looks out over one of the busiest bike intersections and I see one go by around every minute or so. The video below was taken at rush hour.
Happy birthday to the Pandora bike lane!

They're very abundant on the island, but they're actually an introduced species that isn't native anywhere in BC so not really fitting as a symbol of the province.

My new butterfly ID book is written by John Acorn! Obviously acorns are not butterflies but close enough.

Fully agree, except that you could buy a lot of very luxurious toast with $100 so I'd be kind of excited by that tbh.

According to the Motor Vehicle Act, crosswalk rules only apply to the butterfly's larval stage. Once in adulthood, they're required to follow Transport Canada's aviation guidelines which don't say anything about crosswalks.

We need a party rooted in:

🟠 Moral clarity - on climate, oligarchy and genocide

🟠 Solutions as deep as the crises we face

🟠 Public ownership, massive reinvestment in universal services, transfer of wealth from the top to everyone below.
