from NYT interview w/Schumer: 1. no plan beyond hoping it wouldn't pass the Senate. 2. never understood it was a leverage time not a binary choice 3. sounded old and cranky. Conclusion: Time to go. Biden realized he had to step aside but too late. Schumer shouldn't wait for the Const to implode.

BREAKING: Senate just UNANIMOUSLY restored $1.1 billion for DC local govt that was eliminated

Why?

Because Senators of BOTH parties work in DC - and most have homes there - and none of them want to be in a hellhole

Now - try applying that same logic to THE REST OF THE COUNTRY

Too much is at stake not to keep up the pressure on the Senate Democrats up to the very moment of the vote.

No Dem Senator has to follow Schumer here. This is a weak stategic move driven by fear and learned helplessness. Don't follow him. He's leading the party into irrelevance and helping Trump and Musk in the process.

Call your Dem Senators and ask them not to join Schumer's surrender tomorrow.
SCHUMER just now: "While the CR bill is very bad, the potential for a shutdown has consequences for America that are much, much worse."

This is the key takeaway I think. If we are gonna slide into authoritarian rule, I would have preferred someone to have taken a swing on the way down at least.

4/ don't have to and sometimes may be obligated not to do what you want. But they should never play their voters for fools. Schumer tried to play his voters for fools here. He tried to engineer a performative stand down. He wanted to keep his hands clean while still allowing the CR to pass.

Okay, Schumer's speech was a head fake. This is the Senate D caucus trying to fool their own supporters. Sorry to say that but that's what's happening.

I have spent a lot of time volunteering for Dems in my lifetime and making significant donations (max individual) in 2020. I am an “OG Wine Mom.”

I have defended things that I think folks can be naive about in politics.

But this is the line for me. No more. Fuck the Dem leadership. Fuck NY.
Schumer: "As bad as this CR is, allowing Donald Trump to take much more power via a shutdown is the worse option."

And really, if that's your case for a "yes" vote, make it. Make it publicly. None of this Schumer "three losses add up to a win" bullshit.

The Dem base wants a fight, but they also want honesty.

It is quite the indictment of Senate Dems that we cannot trust them to do the right thing even when we're holding their feet to the fire and the alternative for them is tacit support for fascism. This moment highlights what kind of Dem leadership we needed, and how terribly short they fall.

CALLS ARE WORKING - it has bought us precious time, but we NEED to keep the pressure up.

Tomorrow is the cloture vote.

KEEP CALLING: (202) 224-3121 ☎️☎️☎️

Tell your Dem Senator to vote NO on Cloture and NO on the Republican spending bill.

Do NOT assume your Senator will be good on this. Trust me.
🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave.

Tell them:
1. Vote NO on Cloture
AND
2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill.

Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it.

TODAY is the showdown.

Don't take this as gospel. It's not official. It's a very knowledgable source's best understanding of the situation. This persons likely Yeses on cloture are. Schumer, Hassan, Peters, Durbin, Schatz, King, Shaheen, Fetterman, Cortez Masto and Gillibrand.

@slotkin.senate.gov vote NO on cloture for the CR bill! Why would Dems ever give away their leverage? Would it be because then you can all safely vote NO on the CR bill, so you can tout this to your constituents, all while knowing you never really had to make a stand against the Republicans.

Just to answer some of your questions: We are asking Senate Democrats to vote NO on cloture without a path to winning a clean 30-day continuing resolution.

Cloture requires 60 votes, so the Senate GOP will need Democratic support. Urge your senators to hold the line. 👇

1) If you changed nothing in current law about federal spending and taxes, that would have lower budget deficits than the proposed House GOP budget outline.

2) Neither option is anywhere close to a balanced budget.
