The event is organized by Places for People, a small and inspiring non-profit in Haliburton that has acquired a number of existing rental properties and brought them into non-profit ownership. You can read more about their work here

The next film screening is Wednesday 15 October at 7pm at the Minden Cultural Centre in Haliburton. I'm visiting the county to take part in their annual Housing Summit.
Looking forward to good conversation and learning about some rural housing challenges & solutions.

One of the cool things about the Vancouver Skytrain is the ability to photograph from the front window! It takes a bit of luck, patience and a clear windshield. But the results give a great impression of how transit has shaped the region. Pictures from April 2025.

It’s fun to regularly see the number 4 trains rumble past right field in Yankee Stadium on the el above River Ave!

Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s home runs have been magical.

And his Grand Slam was majestic.

But that hustle home, launching himself to the plate, tells you everything you need to know about how badly he wants this. Outstanding.

The Venn diagram of urban density and average household GHG emissions is pretty much a circle. Interesting study on “Mapping household GHG emissions in the Greater Golden Horseshoe” from the University of Toronto School of Cities schoolofcities.utoronto.ca/mapping-hous...

When bikes lanes were the target, it felt like it was just a Toronto thing.

This, this is against the whole province! Stand up. Fight!

"If Ford goes through with his ban, the city should keep some cameras rolling (but not issue tickets) to see if the number of speeding cars zooms back up. I suspect those numbers would prove that, despite the premier’s enthusiasm, road safety is not a problem that can be solved with flashing lights"

🤘🏼I wrote about sweating the small stuff. The city parks dept answered city council’s request to look into destructive practices w a shrug. That’s not good enough. Total park reform is needed & needs to be an election platform. If Chow passes on it, someone else surely will. Pls read & share. 🙏🏼🤘🏼
Shawn Micallef: How Toronto can take a lesson from Van Halen, and learn to sweat the small stuff
Anybody who travels this city knows large vehicles are routinely in parks. It’s disrespectful to Torontonians, a scandalous waste of money, and intrusive to those trying to enjoy the outdoor

It’s not everyday that a documentary debuts in Collingwood.

“Thinking Beyond the Market: a film about genuinely affordable housing” by @briandoucet.bsky.social.

Don’t miss it, if it screens near you. It’s very well done, highlighting efforts to decommodify housing from across Canada.

Good morning Collingwood!

Future screening info via www.housingfilm.ca & as always, get in touch if you’re interested in one in your community!

Close win by the Tigers.
But I found it crazy that there were quite a few empty seats in Cleveland this afternoon. It’s not a ‘big market’ but there are millions of people in the region.
My Toronto brain can’t compute that (&can’t imagine post season Jays being anything but completely full house)

Few things are as subsidized as a driver's ability to park a car in public space in North America.

On Sunday, #Zürich residents voted 52.8% in favor of increasing parking fees for cars according to weight.

The owner of a BMW X2 (Diesel), which weighs 1,675 kilograms, will now pay equivalent of €717 Euros per year to park on a public street. (Before, about €321.)

Direct democracy!

Yes, I’ll be there for the screening! Looking forward to it.

Across the US, transit agencies are staring down huge 'fiscal cliffs.' The popular explanation is Covid and inflation.

But experts say there are other, longer-term forces in play, from declining gas tax revenues to 'Baumol's cost disease.'

Covid and inflation played a role. But for many agencies, the crisis goes much deeper.
