Funded by the NIH Common Fund, @smahtnetwrk.bsky.social will map somatic mutations across human tissues with #SingleCell sequencing.

Their work will uncover the causes, patterns, and consequences of somatic mutations in normal cells—providing a vital baseline for disease research.

Although organs represent a mixture of cells derived from the germ layers (for example, skin epidermis (ectoderm) versus dermis (mesoderm), and adrenal gland medulla (ectoderm) versus cortex (mesoderm)), we have indicated the major germ layer represented by each organ. Gonads represent germ cells and their supportive structures (mesoderm), whereas buccal swabs are variable mixtures of germ layers (mesoderm and ectoderm)."
