www.abc.net.au/news/2025-01... Seems like we need to get rid of profit-taking insurance model. Esp. for ppl driven to high risk places by poverty itself. Not much point in "insurance" that doesn't work in a crisis. Note comments from community lawyer @bronlay.bsky.social in @abcnewsbot.bsky.social

Absolutely depraved and inhumane that Los Angeles is continuing to evict renters during a catastrophe of this scale.

Fires in LA mirror Australia’s devastating Black Summer bushfires—both fueled by a hotter, drier climate.
We must legislate a National Climate Risk Framework to protect homes, businesses, and communities while reducing insurance costs. Every $1 invested in adaptation saves $11 in disaster recovery.

The LA fire could upend the insurance market. It’s well big enough for money to just admit that the climate crisis is here now, and we don’t have the system in place to deal with it. Like all valuations are bullshit. And it cascades from there.

Today I learned the federal government's longstanding Scheme for Compensation for Detriment caused by Defective Administration does not apply to Corporate Commonwealth Entities, a category that includes the National Disability Insurance Agency. Faulty NDIS admin somehow immune.
