Currently working on redesigning the mechanism for my #3Dprinted Stephenson's Rocket model. I think this will work a lot better than my old design. #modelrailway #Blender

Project update! I've been printing the mechanism for my Rocket model and the gears keep sticking, I think it needs redesigning. Also I have started redesigning my old clockwork Beattie well tank to be electric. The body shell is already coming together nicely. #modelrailway #3Ddesign #blender #WIP

I've not posted a lot, but there's plenty going on behind the scenes. So I thought I would post a sneak peak of the secret project I'm working on. Might be a bit of a giveaway XD #modelrailway #modelrailroad #3Ddesign #Blender

I've not really found any site like that, I get most my references from books. The closest I can think of is this site here: www.lbscr.org/index.html and maybe there are others like it, but this one will only help you with the LB&SCR railway. Hope this helps :)

I've fitted the bracket and hopefully it works. Initially I thought the bracket wasn't needed, but the screw holes didn't line up with the metal thread and the x gantry, so the bracket works as an adapter. Hopefully this should reduce wear, make servicing easier and the printer will last longer.

I just received some metal Threads that should work with the Z screws, and I'm now working on the plastic block that will screw it to the X gantry. Hopefully this will make the printer run a little better.

When I first bought my 3D printer, and soon after every service, a build up of black grease would form on the thread unlike on any other printer I owned. After disassembly I found out the inner thread is actually plastic pt1

The Diesel in question is described simply as "Explorer". The closest I have found is a British Rail Class 52 and, while the dates do match up for when it existed, preliminary results show no evidence of an electrical fire and the way the locomotive is described made it sound like a prototype.
January 28, 2026 at 12:50 PM
Interestingly I found this tucked inside the pages, it's an accident report from 1968 about a fire that broke out in a Diesel locomotive's Electrical compartment. I think it's from the UK judging by the time and date formats, but there's little information about location or even type of locomotive.

Just got this in the post, it's a book full of drawings and diagrams from US railways. So I finally be able to design some AMERICAN LOCOMOTIVES! At present I don't know what scale I will be designing to (Maybe 00, as American stock at that scale would be rarer). Maybe I'll do H0 too. #modelrailway

As a child I loved #LEGO but, as children do, I never really look after my toys. A few years ago I made it my goal to rebuy all my childhood LEGO sets. I bought a few then stopped a while back, but now I want to try to get back into it. Looking to be another fun but expensive hobby XD

I'm surprised its taken me this long to get the project to this point, I started it back in July XD. But the motor has been a nightmare, the only ones that would fit had such a high RPM it took a lot of work to design a gearbox with that many printed gears that didn't lock up.
January 22, 2026 at 11:23 PM
I've decided to rebuild the chassis and mechanism for my #3Dprintable C class locomotive (AGAIN) to use a different motor. Making this the THIRD motor change. However this motor has a lower RPM so I can shrink the gear box and drive it from the middle set of wheels. #modelrailway #3Ddesign #Blender

This may have been pointed out before, but I wanted to show some of Hornby's insane pricing. On their site it will cost you £199.99 for the BASIC ENTRY LEVEL Flying Scotsman, while on Rails of Sheffield you can get the same loco, 3 coaches, track and controller for 5p cheaper...

Sans Pareil could possibly have a small, coreless motor and gearbox fitted but I have doubts about Perseverance and Novelty. Not without major alteration to the look and realism of the locomotives. #modelrailway

I saw this on the #Hornby website and thought it would be cool if they made a train pack of all the locomotives from the Rainhill Trials. It would cost a lot ,and the size of the locomotives could make it impossible to motorise them, but it would certainly be a great collectors item. #modelrailway

I recently bought 2 of these little tank engines cheaply with the intention of using them for parts. Now I've serviced them I think I might keep them as part of my collection. They run as well as these Hornby 0-4-0 can, maybe I'll upgrade the motors at some point. #modelrailway #Hornby #00gauge

OH a new series to watc-... Never mind :)
What a way to remove any interest in a tv show

Still working on the mark 2 locomotive. I think the mechanism is done but it might need some tweaks. Perhaps a different motor to slow it down, but I'm still working on it. Its at least printed into an appropriate livery, unlike the old model, which I decided would be green. #modelrailway #3Dprinted

I've started to print the final parts for my #Thomasandfriends Lady locomotive. So far it's going together decently, but there are a few changes that need to be made. I'm hoping it will look good by the end. #modelrailway #3Dprinted #00gauge

Thank you all!

I've installed a new magnet into my Princess class and new brushes. At first it was working but it limped at low speeds. After a while the locomotive was completely dead. I only get the occasional smoke and sparks off the brushes. My guess is the magnet is too strong for the motor. #modelrailway

I've just finished installing some new cylinders into my Triang Flying Scotsman model. Now I can at least run the locomotive. Unfortunately she is a lumpy and noisy runner, stopping and starting with sparks coming off the wheels. I expect the wheels need a much more thorough clean. #modelrailway

I'm working on the Mark 2 mechanism for my #3Dprinted Lady locomotive from the magic railroad. But I'm currently stuck on what livery to print it in, and wondered what people like the best? #modelrailway #Blender #TTTE #Magicrailroad
