Oh cool thank you! It's interesting to see how railways operated in different countries, I didn't realise the earliest locos in Japan were UK imports XD. I'll definitely give this a look for future projects :)

Yeah I still don't know much about railways outside the UK, all I know is that 3D modelling a class of locomotive when every reference picture looks different is a pain XD

Looking in the US book, there can be many vast differences between locomotives that are built to a core design. And most of the time these locomotives don't have any classification except the wheel arrangement and the company that made them.

From my very limited research, America suffers from this more than the UK. Here most engines fit into a class and, while there may be differences between ordered engines for each job, they still fit into a class.

I've not really found any site like that, I get most my references from books. The closest I can think of is this site here: www.lbscr.org/index.html and maybe there are others like it, but this one will only help you with the LB&SCR railway. Hope this helps :)
