every single study that has directly given people money has been a success and yet
Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing.

They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays.

The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k.

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1,000 a month. A year later, nearly half of participants said they had housing.
Participants in Denver's basic-income program reported having more-secure housing, though results were similar in the trial and control groups.

OK, if it’s that light kind of sweet bread that you get a lot in Southeast Asia? Delicious especially because I know it’s like 9000° there.

I remember Jason Manzoukas talking about how he worked at some giant financial firm and had no idea what he was doing, no knowledge of what his job was supposed to be, but he just kept showing up every day and was friendly to people and he kept getting paid.
I was literally told during a performance review: "we're not really sure what you do, but you do it very well"

I think we’ve learned an important lesson today, which is: If you ever run a media company, do not ever create a situation where your poetry editor might have cause to write a resignation letter, because it will scorch you from the face of the earth.
Anne Boyer has resigned as the poetry editor of the New York Times magazine: “Because our status quo is self-expression, sometimes all artists have left is to refuse. So I refuse.”

I know some people say that questioning details about horrific stories is a way of downplaying or denying the horror, but it’s really not: wartime propaganda is corrosive and insidious and a tool for manipulation, and truth is worth caring about even in the face of utter tragedy.
So yesterday, a lot of ppl shared a claim that 40 Israeli babies were decapitated at Kfar Aza, a kibbutz near Gaza. Here’s a bit of insight about how we approach a claim like that as reporters:
1) Figure out where the claim was coming from. In this case, it was a single Israeli TV reporter.
