While there is no prohibition on Chinese ownership in U.S. military contractors like Elon Musk's SpaceX, such investment is heavily regulated and the issue is treated by the U.S. government as a significant national security concern.

but ... socialism. government handouts something something.

on a more serious note: many more industries are being hurt by the tariffs, but most won't recieve bailouts. and taking tariff money to save a industry you destroyed with the very same tariffs is still a net negative & very, very stupid.

I think this is right:
"We've slid into some form of authoritarianism," says Steven Levitsky, a professor of government at Harvard. "It is relatively mild compared to some others. It is certainly reversible, but we are no longer living in a liberal democracy."

Earlier this year, Dr. Jane Goodall sat down for an interview for Brad Falchuk’s new Netflix series, Famous Last Words.

The premise of the series is to interview people on the condition that the interview not air until the subject has passed away.

It's interesting the White House didn't even have a plan for how to spin it afterwards. Nothing small negotiated in advance to call a win, no coordinated messaging with MAGA influencers, just a dud meeting and Trump fumbling a softball interview. Perhaps morale is tanking over at 1600 Pennsylvania.
The effort to push the meeting as a massive, pivotal news event was remarkably palpable. Even for markets coverage. When it was obviously going to be a non-event from that perspective.
All week this “Alaska summit” has been given top billing, over federal troops occupying DC, and now what?

This Fourth of July, I am taking a moment to reflect. Things are hard right now. They are probably going to get worse before they get better.

But I love our country — and when you love something, you fight for it. Together, we will continue to fight for the ideals of our nation.
