Trump team claims tariffs stop the "emergency" of trade imbalances (not an emergency, been that way for decades) and stops fentanyl (how? excuse me?).
How do they explain a 39% tariff on Swiss imports, when we have a trade surplus with Switzerland & they send us zero fentanyl?

Something strange happening with hertz. Pick any car in the gold zone, they said. Difficult choice it turns out. The white car in the distance isn't in the zone, btw. Also nobody in the office in the parking lot.

I don't know if it counts, exactly, since I'm not sure if she's a senior academic, but Dame Maggie Aderin-Pocock was so lovely in person.
Right, enough of James Watson - who's a senior academic you've met who's been an utter delight?
I'll go first: Jocelyn Bell Burnell

Patty Smith sings a beautiful song here. I love the line about the people shall redeem the work of fools. It's incredible she can sing so well, but I think it probably always was incredible just in different ways.
We need more songs like this

Prices are not down for those folks on SNAP. Or, rather, the people that formerly were being helped by SNAP.
But of course he lies.

Trump: "The reason I don't want to talk about affordability is because everybody knows it's far less expensive under Trump than it was under Sleepy Joe Biden and the prices are way down."

It's still so weird to me that the idea of universal healthcare is so political here. It's a given in so many other places, and I miss it. And people don't realize how good it is for innovation. You can take so many more risks when your health and well-being aren't tied to a salaried employer.
