Wear your goddamn helmets guys.
Longboard, scooter, bike, it doesn't matter. One month ago today I was in the hospital with an uncomfortably large chance of dying from a brain bleed (epidural hemotoma) and a basilar skull fracture while dealing with a TBI - because I didn't wear a fucking helmet.

Just watched veritasium's video on the history of PFAS chemicals, how their danger was covered up by DuPont and others, and the risk they pose for literally everyone in the world.

*Highly* recommend a watch

The new slate EV truck looks fucking awesome.

7/8 the size of a Maverick, RWD, 120kw charging, and 150/240mi range (two batt size options). Oh yeah, and its a no frills single cab with hand crank windows.

They say with the EV tax credit, it'll be $20k for the base model. I will 100% get one.

Love this camera #olympus #omsystem #micro43

Picked this up off of mpb (used camera marketplace) for like $350, and got some lenses to go with it. I got it for photographing at drift events, but it's been super fun day to day for taking pictures as well.

Just got arrested with guns drawn because a cop thought I pointed a laser at him. (It was a camera)

When photography came out, painters thought it couldn't be art.

When Photoshop came out, lab based photographers thought it couldn't be art.

PETG-CF really prints beautifully, despite the monstrous 0.4mm layers laid with a 0.6mm nozzle.

This is really cool. I gather, kind of like how we would use context from surrounding words to make out something that's smudged. This does the same.
🚀 We just dropped SmolDocling: a 256M open-source vision LM for complete document OCR! 📄✨
Lightning fast, process a page in 0.35 sec on consumer GPU using < 500MB VRAM ⚡
SOTA in document conversion, beating every competing model we tested (including models 27x more params) 🤯
But how? 🧶⬇️

Very interesting (or existentially horrifying) sci-fi short story:

With our large language models it's easy to imagine the similarities our timeline might pose to this fictional one, given enough advances in AI.

In 2010, Aaron Swartz faced 35 years in prison for downloading 70GB of JSTOR articles. He died by suicide in 2013.

Meanwhile, Meta illegally downloaded 80+ TERABYTES of books to train AI models with zero consequences. The law doesn't punish corporations—only idealists fighting for open knowledge.

I was just taking stock of my graphing calculator collection and was thinking "wow, I really don't have as many as I used to". I used to have 10. Then I counted what I had in front of me and realized I still have 9.

This looks really cool! I've tried Mistral's 'Le Chat' (chat.mistral.ai), and it's also really fast, but this looks like it can achieve similarly fast inference with standard hardware. (Le Chat rums inference on hardware from Cerebras)

Thank god for power outage recovery on my @sovol.bsky.social sv06.

11 hours into a print, and I accidentally tripped a breaker, killing the printer. It was able to recover and save me the time and filament.
